Last winter I did some freeskiing coverage for allisports.com, the official media outlet of all things Winter and Summer Dew Tour. This past weekend some kind friends from the editorial department invited me down for the first ever Skate Open in Boston. While I know very little about skateboarding, I do know that Boston is a good time. Highlights included:
partying with Horn and Collies. Always good to see you cats!
hanging out with the staff from Alli, both old and new. These folks work their tails off to make things happen. Thanks guys. Check out my festival recap here.
the media center was in the Away team’s locker room at the Garden. In other words, I wrote my articles in the same room Kobe Bryant has a melt down after the Celtics won the title. How good is that?
meeting P-Rod. What a genuine and super cool guy. I’m always happy to know there’s good guys like that in other aspects of action sports. Oh, and he’s a G (see Nike ad below)
hearing about all the exciting stuff planned for season 2 of Winter Dew. Stoked for the finals at Mount Snow! Ski The East team is taking over.
…Future? No. Back to writing, actually. Since taking this awesome job, I haven’t found much time to do what I enjoy doing the most, writing and interviewing. That’s not to say I haven’t been enjoying my other activities, I just feel more at home with the written word. That being said, I’m happy to announce to all 12 of my daily readers that starting this summer I’ll be writing a weekly column on Ski The East.net. The column, which has not been named yet, will run once a week on the site and feature mostly interviews with various folks, including but certainly not limited to, athletes, photographers, cinematographers, musicians, and artists. I’m pumped, as Dan Brown says, to be back writing and hope to be providing people with an enjoyable 700-1000 words a week. Of course, I’ll post links to all my articles here on MichaelDavidRogge.com (as my parents would prefer I call it). Until then, thanks for reading and keep checking back for the hilarious joke and never-ending party that is my life.
I’ve been busy as heck and as a result, the updates on the site haven’t been as frequent. Ok, let’s be honest, they’ve been nonexistent! As a way to make it up to those of you still stumbling upon this site, I’ve added a fun gallery below for your visual enjoyment. Also, you may have noticed the Meathead Films twitter stream on the right side of the page. I’m experimenting with Twitter for work and now you’ll be able to follow the action right here on mikerogge.com (hold your applause). I have a few more weeks of craziness but I hope to be back to updating with more profound and well thought out pieces of writing. Until then, enjoy the photos and thanks for being loyal.
I’m not one to discuss what’s on the horizon when it comes to my writing. Schmuck says it ruins the element of surprise and I agree with him. Sure, I’ll mention it from time to time with friends and family but that’s different. This time, Tim let the cat out of the bag. Ok, you got me. I interviewed Tim Durtschi for NS. Who’s Tim Durtschi? Stay tuned to Newschoolers.com for more info and peep the exclusive photo below:
Dan Brown and I headed over to Smuggler’s Notch on Saturday for some skiing (read: photos). Dan’s working on a piece for Ski Magazine entitled, “Sidecountry” and he was nice enough to invite me to tag along. Dan explained that “sidecountry” is terrain accessed by way of hiking from the top of a chair lift. We met up with the Hugh, the snow reporter for Smuggs, and he took us through some tight tree lines and untouched powder. Fun times. Dan snapped a few photos. You can spot them below (click to enlarge). All in all, a good day of skiing here in the Green Mountains.
